Recently I was asked to do something I always do, go shopping for beauty products. As a makeup artist and flat out makeup junkie I am always on the lookout for new products to try.

I am so excited to share some of my summer makeup tips!

I went to my favorite spot: The Walgreens flagship store in Union Square.

There is also a Gift With Purchase offer which runs through 8/30 and allows consumers to get a coupon by texting a code or visiting Walgreens.com for a FREE travel-size make-up brush set, with any $20 beauty and personal care purchase (excluding baby category).

Naturally, I’m going to share my best summer beauty tips & buys so you don’t have to spend an afternoon in the drugstore (cause that’s what I did, hey it was research). We'll cover hair, makeup, nails and sun protection.

Let’s start with SPF!

I always try to practice what I preach, namely wearing SPF! Generally, I’ve got my face covered with spf laden moisturizers and even foundation. However, when I think of how much more our skin is exposed during the summer it changes the game. The new convo is about applying and reapplying! Did you know for your entire body properly you need about a shot glass full of spf lotion. Practically speaking you need a product that has a nice skin feel, meaning it doesn’t get tacky, sticky or rub you the wrong way. I like lightweight formulas like:

Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Ultra Radiance Lotion SPF 30, Banana Boat Protect & Hydrate SPF 30 and La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Melt-In Sunscreen Milk, SPF 60, Face & Body.

Bonus PM Beauty Tip:

For a touch of nighttime glam I love a little shine. I had to try this Jergens Shea Beauty Oil. The formula is a light oil that adds hydration and shine. For a more subtle look apply right after the shower to damp skin…or apply to your arms and legs in the cab enroute to your fave rooftop venue!

Next, Nails!

There are so many nail trends you can try this summer. So far my faves are the bright corals (as seen on the runway at Rebecca Minkoff), brights/neons, 50 Shades of Gray inspired shades and the perennial purple! There is also a push for neutrals, as seen at BCBG Max Azria’s 2014 Spring/Summer runway show. Essie Sunday Funday, Topless and Barefoot, and In The Cab-Ana.

Here are some of the trends I've tried so far:

Colorful Makeup

During the summer I don’t want to feel my makeup on my skin nor do I want to run down my face. That doesn't mean I won't wear anything.

I LOVE color! Pink lips, teal liner, bronzed skin? Sign me up!

Here are the products I used to create a bright summer look:

Skin: Use a light BB Cream (with and SPF) and Under Eye Concealer like CoverGirl & Olay The De-Puffer Eye Concealer.

Eyes: For liner use a soft black liner and pair it with a colored liner instead of eye shadow. I used CoverGirl Queen Collection Vivid Impact Eyeliner Pencil Jade for an amped up teal look!

Waterproof your mascara: I used Maybelline Volum' Express Pumped Up! Colossal Waterproof Mascara.

Lips: For a bright pink lip look that lasts I like a stain like Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain India Intrigue

Last stop, Hair.

If you’re like me you might like a blowout every so often, or maybe more. Heat and humidity are not blowout friendly. I like to arm myself with a few key items to maintain my summer blowout.

Getting a blowout this summer? Want to keep your blowout fresh? Get the right dry shampoo. When I use Salon Grafix Volumizing Dry Shampoo I can take my 'do through the better part of a week!
