How To Use A French Press

Of all the different ways to make coffee my personal favorite brewing method is with a French Press. Also known as a press pot or Melior, the French Press is a simple way to make a rich, bold cup of coffee. Like this Francois et Mimi 50oz Glass French Press. The French Press is a low tech portable coffee brewing method. To start select the right ground. For french press medium to coarsely ground coffee works best.

There is no perfect ratio of coffee to water. The suggestion is 1 tablespoon of coffee for every 4 fluid ounces of water. However, for a 50 oz press try 13-15 tablespoons. Next, add the ground coffee into the French press. Once the water boils, wait 30 seconds before pouring onto the coffee. This will lower the temperature from boiling to around 200° F, which is ideal for brewing.

Let it brew for 3-4 minutes before pressing down the filter and serving. When its time, gently press the plunger down. Pro tip: It should have a bit of resistance. If there is no resistance, you might need to grind a little finer. If it is too hard to press down, use a coarser grind.
