Check Up Time: Why Your Eye Health is SO Important

Not so fun fact: U.S. Latinos have higher rates of preventable vision loss and eye conditions.

According to a study by the National Eye Institute, Latinos developed visual impairment and blindness at the highest rate of any ethnic group in the country. Globally, a recent study found that while sight is the most valued of the senses, 39 percent of adults admit they pay less attention to their eyes than any other health issue. Keeping tabs on eye health is important since even daily exposure to UV rays can have a cumulative effect on eyes, making them more susceptible to serious eye conditions like cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.

Recently, I shared that professional stylist and eyewear Irma Martinez teamed up with Transitions Optical to share from how to choose eyewear that complements the shape of your face, skin tone, personal style and lifestyle to selecting fashion accessories that make eyewear the focus of a complete look. The webisodes not only focus on outer beauty but also share the best tips for taking care of your eyes, inside and out.

I have interviewed Irma about fashion many times but the last time I caught up with her she shared why she is Transitions lenses wearer herself.
