Choosing to smooth is a new way to elevate your personal shaving routine, leaving your skin exfoliated and smooth. So, how will you #ChooseToSmooth?

Let's get into it!

Q: What's the most common shaving mistake women make?

A: Women press too hard and go over the same area several times as an effect of using a dull razor. They think that it is necessary to press repeatedly on the same area in order to get the perfect shave. Putting too much pressure can cause nicks, cuts and irritation. Make sure to use fresh blades with a high-quality razor system like the Venus Swirl.   If you’re using the right razor, you’ll find that all you need to do is go over each area once with a light stroke to remove hair properly.

Q: How do you pick the right razor?

A: If you’re looking for a razor that can reach tricky areas, try out the Venus Swirl. It has five Contour Blades and a FLEXIBALL that allows the razor to glide and pivot around your curves for a close shave, without having to worry about getting nicks or cuts.

Venus and Olay is a great choice if you are looking to choose a razor with built in skin conditioning elements. The shave gel bars located around this 5 bladed razor contain ingredients found in Olay products that help to lock in moisture.

If you’re traveling or need to shave on the go, Venus Snap which comes in compact case designed to fit in your purse, travel or gym bag. Venus Snap has a full-sized 5 bladed Venus Embrace razor head surrounded by a protective ribbon of moisture so you don’t have to trade quality for the convenience of shaving anytime.

Q: How can I get a closer shave on tricky areas like underarms & bikini?

A: For your underarms, hold your arm high over your head so that the concave area of the underarm gets as flat as possible.  This will give a taut surface to shave on and make it a lot easier, especially when shaving from all angles. For the bikini area, shave in the direction of hair growth first (inward) and then against hair for an extra-close shave.

Q: How do you prevent ingrown hairs and razor burn?

A: Ingrown hairs or razor burn can be prevented by using high-quality tools and proper shaving techniques. Getting a close and comfortable shave starts with a high quality razor that has five, fresh blades and is designed to adjust to the curves and contours of your body, like the Venus Swirl razor. If you are prone to ingrown hairs I suggest using a chemical exfoliant such as a glycolic acid pad to tone to area twice a day.  It can also help to use an antibiotic lotion (prescribed by your dermatologist) to the area once a day and a mild steroid lotion right after shaving to avoid inflammation.  For razor burn you want to make sure you have a wet, moisturized surface to shave over.  Use a razor with built in moisture bars like Venus and Olay or razor burn or a moisturizing shave gel like Venus with a touch of Olay if your skin is prone to razor burn.

Bonus Question: How can you take care of your skin during the warmer months?

Many women think that the warmer weather contributes to increased hair growth, when hair lightened by the sun may actually just give the illusion that hair is growing faster. Showing off more skin also makes women more conscious and aware of hair removal needs. I’d recommend using Venus Swirl to get a close long-lasting shave in one stroke on any area of the body. The razor also contours to your body giving you the closest possible shave.  The sun, chlorine and sweat on the skin during the summer months all contribute to dry skin. With this, it’s also important to moisturize in summer months as dry skin can lead to ingrown hair and razor burn.
