In 2016, beautiful unretouched images of Denise were released by @LaneBryant. And now, in 2017, one of these ads is featured in the pages of @si_swimsuit. Last week, the model and founder of @thereisnowrongwaytobeawoman, came to Mic to discuss all things body image - including this groundbreaking advertisement. Here she talks about how she learned to fully embrace the stretch marks that formed after having her daughter @justmejoselyn. "The fact that women will be able to pick up Sports Illustrated, which has forever been an issue where, sometimes unrealistic standards are met, and even the curvy girls are retouched - I'm so proud to be a part of this change in our industry," Denise tells us. "So many times I was told change this, change that and you will be perfect, whatever the project may be. And I stuck to my grounds and I believed in myself. ... For that little girl or that grown women who is looking at that issue and saying, "Holy crap what is this," I just want her to know that anything is possible. Even the impossible - like showing your stretch marks and cellulite in Sports Illustrated - it's all doable."
