6 Tips For Living Well
Growing old is inevitable, and the best way to survive and endure this journey is to live life to the fullest as we move on in years. Meet Patricia Greenberg, aka The Fitness Gourmet, who has spent 18 years researching how and why we age. After countless interviews and following people as they matured into their 40s, 50s, and 60s, she compiled a fabulous life guide to embracing and reveling in the aging process.
Following the simple concepts outlined in her new book Eat Well, Live Well, Age Well, Greenberg empowers people to embrace the aging process fearlessly and peacefully.
With her comprehensive approach to being well at any age, she shares some of her top tips and tells us it’s never too late to start.
1. Our whole lives we are taught to restrict, that there are bad foods and good foods. Nurture yourself with foods you love; just always make sure they are the healthiest versions. Obviously, I recommend fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and tons of water, but unless you have medical reasons for restricting foods, pick one day a week to indulge; life is too short to feel deprived, and wine and chocolate are good for you!
2. Nutrition and fitness always go hand and hand when discussing wellness. The number one form of movement for optimal wellness is walking. It keeps you upright, which is critical for old age, it keeps the body continually maintaining balance, enhances heart and lung function, and keeps you socially active! For a little extra kick, speed walk and climb stairs. For added benefit, hit the weights twice a week.
3. Take a look at your life to see where you can simplify, reduce stress, and make things easier for yourself. The first order of business is to clean up your surroundings, which will free you up to be creative and open to new things.
4. Loneliness is the new smoking. Studies have shown that being alone will age you faster, contributing to cognitive decline. Friends and family make the journey more rewarding, even if there is strife! Let’s all work at maintaining relationships for life.
5. Your journey towards aging well starts when you stop caring what anyone thinks, and it is harder than it sounds! - Life begins when you start to live for yourself. The cumulative effect of lifestyle habits will affect you over the course of a lifetime, and you can improve every aspect of your life at any age.
6. Write down, and Say out loud everything you want for the rest of your life so the whole world can hear it!!
