Bronzed & Beautiful: Robert Bolanos' Tips For Warming Up

LA based makeup artist Robert Bolanos understands first-hand from his California girl clients the desire for bronzed and beautiful skin.  But warming up with bronzer can lead to problematic issues like a too muddy or too shimmery look.  Bolanos shares his tips and tricks for getting bronzed beautifully.
Choose the right formula
Bronze products come in many formulas including powder, cream and gel.  Consider the climate you live in.  Powder is ideal for those in hot climates.  Creams will slip and slide off the face if you live in more humid conditions.  Cream and Gel are the best choice if you live in dry climates as they add moisture and can add dewiness.
Place strategically
Apply bronzer across the forehead, bridge of nose and in a crescent “C” shape on the cheeks.  Also remember to brush the neck- this is an often missed area that really counts!  For added glow apply a shimmer on the cheek bones.

Favorite Products
Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess is my favorite powder bronzer because of its matte color. It gives a dust of bronze to the skin without shimmer and shine...a great base should you want to add a little "glow" product over it in the evening.  For liquid or cream bronzers I like using NARS Illuminator in "Orgasm" or Clinique Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator Bronze

Finally: Coordinate with Sheer & Soft Lips
When going for a beachy bronze look, choose sheer and soft shades of lip color.  Going for bright lips with bronze skin can sometimes look harsh and can be difficult to pull off.  You can still wear color, such as red or coral, but opt for a sheer formula.
