This Friday, October 5, local members of Girls Scouts of the U.S.A., Girls Inc., and Boys & Girls Clubs of America in a march to Times Square to start a national conversation on girls’ self-esteem. The march kicks off the third annual Dove Self-Esteem Weekend, a nationwide effort to raise awareness for the need to help girls develop a positive relationship with beauty.

Dove research has found that 72 percent of girls feel tremendous pressure to be beautiful and only 11 percent of girls are comfortable using the word beautiful to describe themselves.  The Dove Self-Esteem Weekend aims to spark a national conversation about improving girls’ self-esteem.  “Let’s Talk” is the theme of this year’s Self-Esteem Weekend which embodies Dove’s belief that helping girls build self-esteem starts with a conversation.

The march to Times Square is meant to reflect the experience of moms and mentors who have to break through the noise and distractions to reach girls with a word of encouragement. The brand is unveiling an installation for moms and girls to start talking about beauty and self-esteem.
