Style Math: How To Wear Print (with help from Peter Pilotto for Target collection)
As you may already know I am a big fan of bold colors! I also have an affinity for prints.
I am huge admirer of Peter Pilotto. I have admired the otherworldly prints juxtaposed with soft sculptural shapes that are created by the design duo behind, Peter Pilotto. I found myself gravitating towards their pieces at Saks, but not quite able to drop that much cash on a silk scarf, sculptural organza skirt or printed sweater.
When I heard about the Target collab...I was excited but not sure what to expect, sometimes these collections simply miss the mark. Not this time! The pieces shown at the editors preview were amazing and captured the essence of the brand. Prince points, were on point!
Then I saw the commercial spot on TV, this is in the midst of the glitz an glamour of fashion week. Ask anyone covering fashion week, how unimpressive anything fashion realted becomes this time of year...Well my frozen heart melted when I saw this:
That's the party we all want to be at! Gorgeous ladies in fun dresses (and pants) unabashedly celebrating the new season and dancing to the music stylings of Sylvester (here's the video for the song: Sylvester 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)')
Sidenote: On September 20, 2004, Sylvester's anthem record, "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)," was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame. A year later, on September 19, 2005, Sylvester himself was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame for his achievement as an artist.
Back to the clothes! Target has these tremendous launch parties for theses designer collaborations. This time I was on assignment (covering something fabulous at New York Fashion Week) I went to Target to shop for a few looks and scored big time. Everything was under $45...I went a little crazy...but I have since worn everything at least twice and have the photos to prove it!
Most of the photos are with celebs including Dr. Mayim Bialik. I've been a fan of her acting since 'Blossom' and now she's all grown up and wrote a fantastic vegan cookbook. Let's not forget this actress, author and mom is also a neuroscientist!
I interviewed Rosie Perez in this Peter Pilotto for Target dress and Rosie gave me a compliment I quickly returned one! P.S. Shes so fabulous! Long story short, I plan to wear the crap out of everything!
About The Designers
Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos are the designers behind the PETER PILOTTO label. Pilotto is half-Austrian, half-Italian and De Vos is half-Belgian, half-Peruvian. They met whilst studying at Antwerp’s prestigious Royal Academy of Fine Arts in the year 2000. The design duo’s vision of womenswear embraces both new and classic perspectives on elegance. Otherworldly prints combine with soft sculptural shapes to form the handwriting of the design duo, something which evolves and is explored each season as opposed to being reactionary. Pilotto is focused toward textiles and print whereas De Vos concentrates more on silhouette and drape. However, the duo work beyond their individual perimeters to create something new, their process being very organic and beyond an integration of the two fields. PETER PILOTTO prefer to guard a little magic around their creations for the wearer’s own input. This is reinforced by the idea of the curiosity cabinet, which is something that holds stimulus for the duo. The curiosity cabinet is a metaphor for journey, their cultural mix and a collection of recurring things that enamour them, such as natural phenomena. The duo are particularly fascinated with a scientific view of nature, as reflected in the microscopic, encrusted, hyper-real prints of the collections.
