Food Trends For 2021 with Jill Freiberg of Jillicious Foods Jillicious Foods & Events

When you think about food right now what comes to mind? Dalgona coffee, sourdough, and banana bread? We are thinking about food differently now and will so into the rest of 2021. To understand emerging trends we spoke with Jill Freiberg, executive chef of Jillicious Foods & Events , to get an insight into what's going to be on our tables this year.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine's Day is about romance, but it's also about sex. The food for Valentine's Day is all about being a little exotic,” says Freiberg. Think oysters, maybe learning to shuck oysters as a couple for the first time. Have a sweet tooth? Try playing with your food and making dessert as a couple. “You can make your own grownup, gourmet s’mores at home. It’s a great interactive activity,” says Freiberg.

You can shop this kit from Jillicious To Go https://www.jilliciousfoods.com/jillicious-to-go/p/smores It comes complete with our giant housemade vanilla bean marshmallows, plus graham crackers and artisanal milk or dark chocolate bars.

Shopping Locally

“Things have gotten sort of fancier and gotten a little more elegant in some ways. And this year, it’s about healthy options,” explains Freiberg. While we all might be seeking comfort food we will be frequenting

“The farmers market becomes such a focus this year because it's the store you can go to. You can take your kid and go look at vegetables and by local meats at a farmer's market all year round now in New York City,” says Freiberg.

Cultural Cooking

“One of the big trends I'm really seeing, that I love so much as a New Yorker, is about getting back to cultural roots in a lot of ways” explains Freiberg. Think about recipes that Grandma made but with some twists or updates.

“You can have this and it's delicious comfort food, you can get the ingredients from the farmers market, and you can involve everyone in your household whether it's you alone or it's you and a partner or it's teaching kids to cook,” says Freiberg.
