This is a sponsored post with Mums the Word Network and Doctor on Demand. All opinions are my own.Summertime is here! Many of us will be headed outdoors for travel and fun. But with summer activities come summer woes. I've partnered up withDoctor on Demand to share how to avoid the top 10 perils of summer and also how you can get a doctors visit in minutes (your first visit is free, keep on reading).

10 Perils of Summer

  1. Bee Sting - Ouch! Bees, wasps, hornets and other stinging bugs are sometimes unavoidable.

  2. Sunburn  - Protect your skin from the sun, and avoid the most severe UV rays between 10am-4pm.

  3. Concussions - A concussion can result from a blow to the body or head, such as a fall from a swing set.

  4. Poison Oak & Ivy - In the woods everything is green and leafy and… poisonous? Some plants really make you itch.

  5. Jellyfish - They’re not really fish, and they don’t attack. But their tentacles pack a painful and potent venom.

  6. Tick bites - Lyme disease and other complications can arise from a nasty little tick bite. Ask a doctor.

  7. Sunstroke - Kids and seniors are at higher risk for heat exhaustion and sunstroke. Be aware.

  8. Sports Injuries - After a long winter, we’re in a rush to get outdoors. Sometimes leading to a trip and fall.

  9. Burns - Accidents can happen when we’re around campfires or BBQ grills. Get treatment right away.

  10. Kids bumps and bruises - Sometimes it’s a minor scrape, but it may be a more serious bruise. Let’s have a look.

One of the summertime woes not listed is what happens to your feet when you wear sandals. Sometimes it's as simple as a blister or it's worse like it is for me. Right now, I have pain with every single step. I decided I needed medical attention I reached out to Doctor On Demand to get a consultation and see what I could do to take care of my feet.

I signed up for Doctor On Demand and it took about a half an hour from the start of the registration process to the end of my first visit. Amazing! I've sat in doctors offices with an appointment for a half an hour before being seen so this is something that I could get used to.

At registration I was prompted to give the usual and email address password. Next I explained the purpose of my visit and how I had pain in the top of my foot and when I walk I have discomfort. I also included my hypothesis because I recently switched to wearing summer sandals super flat shoes that are very comfortable but they offer no arch support. My best guess is that this was the cause of my foot pain. However, I am not sure what the problem with my feet it actually is. After filling out the registration information I provided further details about the purpose of my visit and other patient history general medical intake info I was connected I've simply requested to see a doctor immediately and they found a doctor and basically I was shortly in short time connected to Dr. Rodney Dorand and we were chatting and I showed him my foot and while there's nothing visible there's no inflammation he did a little test where I apply pressure along certain parts of my foot.

Dr. Dorand said that it would be hard to narrow down the diagnosis without an x-ray but his diagnosis was that it is either a stress fracture or tendonitis. With a stress fracture being more logical based on the pressure points being painful on my feet see picture above and next his prescription was for ibuprofen which he sent over to my pharmacy that was something that I have connected in the registration and he as soon as he submitted it I received a text from my pharmacy saying that my prescription was ready shortly thereafter. In addition to the rx, I have to do is wear sneakers, rest, do ice soaks for my foot.

I had a great experience because the combination of the service and Dr. Dorand I had prompt medical attention without any inconvenience. I think everyone needs to check this out.

Get help fast. Stuff happens. But doctors are always just a few taps away, no matter where you are this summer.
