Here are Crissibeth’s Tips on Capturing the Perfect Rainy Day #Puddlegram shots:
Timing
deal conditions are just after it rains with minimal wind so you have nice, large, still puddles that will reflect like mirrors.
Look for dirty water
The best water for puddlegramming is nice and murky as it creates the most vibrant reflections. Remove any trash that pokes above the surface of the water.
Choose an interesting subject matter
Try taking puddlegrams of landmarks, buildings with repeating patterns or lines, or even people. Bright lights also tend to reflect very well.
Get Low
Mobile phones are perfect for puddlegramming because you can get the lens very close to the water and still see the shot on the screen. Squat down next to the puddle and hold your phone upside down, almost touching the surface of the water with the top of the camera lens. Tilt to adjust
Decide what you want in the frame, then keeping the top of the phone on the surface of the puddle, tilt the camera to adjust the composition. Try to make the reflection point right in the middle of the photo for the best effect, with each half of the photo reflecting the other equally.
Use side buttons or headphones to snap pics
The volume buttons on your headphones will snap a photo for you so you can keep the phone very still during a shot. You can also use the side volume buttons so you can have one hand on the phone and the other helping you balance.
Flip it
For a fun effect, try rotating the photo so the reflection is on top and the subject is on the bottom. If you find the perfect, filthy, glass-like puddle, it will be hard to guess the reflected half of the photo.
