How Important is Having a ‘Good Hair Day’ to You?

Recently, I participated in the ‘Dove Hair Affair’ in Times Sqaure in New York. I got a great blowout and tried some amazing new Dove products (again in the middle of Times Square). As a Latina & a woman with ‘textured’ hair I feel part of a sisterhood that is frankly obsessed with hair. I don’t enjoy fussing over my hair but I do like when I get an amazing blowout because that means at least/hopefully I‘ve got a few ‘good hair days’ for my time, effort and money.   

I saw this infographic that highlights the results of a survey conducted by Dove on the effect of a good hair day vs. bad hair day has on women. Did you know 44% of women would give up wine if they could have a good hair day every day for a year? Sounds like a fair trade off to me!

Overall, hair can make or break a day according to Latina respondents in the Dove Good Hair Day study. The study found that Latinas are very passionate about their hair and feel confident and in control when we have a good hair day.

Latinas feel more confident on a good hair day. We are more likely to go out of their way to make sure certain people see us on a good hair day than any other ethnicity surveyed. Latinas understand good hair days come at a price and are willing to sacrifice. We are also willing to spend extra time styling our hair and money using outside professional hair services than other ethnicities.

Which of these hair problems do you typically experience?
Latinas say their hair problems typically consist of split ends (57%) and frizzy hair (53%) significantly more than Whites, African Americans, and Asians.

Which, if any, of the following would you be more likely to do on a good hair day compared to a bad hair day?
Latinas (59%) are more likely to say they have gone out of their way to make sure certain people see them on a good hair day than Whites (46%), African Americans (46%), and Asians (41%).
Latinas (82%) are also more likely to agree that they try to be out and about on a good hair day than Whites (71%) and African Americans (66%).
Latinas (38%) are more likely to skip a shower to preserve a good hair day than African Americans (11%) and Asians (22%).

Which, if any, of the following have you EVER done as a result of having a bad hair day?
Latinas (10%) are more likely to get outside help such as a professional blow dry and style as a result of a bad hair day than Whites (4%) and Asians (0%).

Latinas are more likely to agree that when they can’t control their hair, they feel like they can’t control their lives than both Whites and Asians.

How long in minutes would you be willing to spend styling your hair in order to make it look good?
Latinas are willing to spend more time styling their hair than Whites and Asians. In fact, 14% of Latinas say they are willing to spend an hour to two hours styling their hair compared to 6% of Whites and 2% of Asians.

Which, if any, of the following would you use to complete this sentence? “Having a good hair day is better than…”
Latinas, having a good hair day is better than finding the perfect outfit more so than Whites and Asians.
